Expansion Joints, flexible coupling and bellows
CIMAKA offer moulded PTFE expansion joints (Style ME-8-B) and flexible couplings (StyleME-8-A) in a full range of sizes, 25 mm through 400 mm. Please note that machined bellows are available up to 1000 mm. Moulded PTFE has these characteristics: outstanding corrosion resistance; non-ageing; wide temperature range (-50° C to +260° C); non-contaminating; long flex life; non-flammable; non-toxic; and zero water absorption. Non standard bellows available on request.

Selection of the correct style expansion joint, flexible coupling or bellows for specific service conditions is necessary for a properly designed piping system. However, for satisfactory performance of the joint, the complete piping system should be installed with sufficient supports, anchors and the best possible pipe alignment.

1 ) Ensures that gap in pipeline where the unit must fit into corresponds to the length 'L' (Installed length) as shown in CIMAKA brochures.
2a) PTFE Envelope Gaskets are to be used when connecting units to dissimilar material i.e., glass lined or metal flanges. Otherwise, gaskets are not required except when repeated onnections/ disconections are to be made.
2b) The gasket sealing face of each unit must be free of surface defects that would impair it's effective ness as a seal.
3a) Recommended bolt torques for installation of units are as follows:
NB PIPEWORK BOLT TORQUES IN N.m
25 mm 14
40 mm 20
50 mm 34
80 mm 54
100 mm 54
150 mm 68
200 mm 95
250 mm 95
300 mm 109
350 mm 150
400 mm 170
3b) Torquing of hold down bolts:
a. Grease bolts and nuts with a suitable grease.
b. Finger tighten all nuts.
c. With a torque wrench, using the criss-cross method, tighten each bolt until torque for each bolt falls within the range as listed above.
4) After 24 - 30 hours or a temperature cycle or a pressure cycle, torque for each bolt shall be checked and those falling below the minimum are to be retorqued to the range as listed above.
5) Maximum torque values as listed should be exceeded only when necessary to effect a seal.
6a) Limit bolts installed on flanges are preset and are not to be removed from units before or after installation.
6b) Preset sizes 'X' of limiting bolts are as follows:

HEATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING

Style ME-8-A flexible couplings or pump connectors are excellent noise and vibration dampeners for your heating, air-conditioning or general purpose piping system. With this non-ageing, long-life coupling, you gain much needed space in new and existing installations.

Convolutions, which are reinforced with stainless steel rings, give the strength necessary to hold 1 Mpa without impairing flexibility during the extreme temperature changes from chilled water to hot water. Limit bolts are isolated from metal flanges with rubber grommets.

CHEMICAL PROCESS INDUSTRY

Style ME-8-B expansion joints permit expansion and contraction in piping systems, plus compensate for misalignment or angular deflection of flanges. With PTFE's chemical inertness, long flex life and zero water absorption, joints are suitable for hostile chemicals. (See nomograph for pressure-temperature capabilities of ME-8-A and ME-8-B joints).

Our sophisticated techniques of moulding joints produce uniform wall thickness from one flare to the other. Metal flanges are protected from process fluid by a raised face sealing surface of PTFE.

Internal smooth bore sleeves are available to eliminate turbulence and product build-up in convolutions.

QUALITY CONTROL

Prior to shipment, each joint is hydrostatically proof-tested to 1,5 Mpa at room temperature. A quality control certificate for every bellow is supplied to customer.

Gasket sealing surfaces are covered with end plates and nuts are individually boxed for protection against mechanical damage.

Limit bolts are preset to prevent over-extension during operation and should not be removed, otherwise, undue damage could result.

PRECAUTIONS:

a. DO NOT exceed maximum designated operating temperatures and pressures.
(Refer to the nomograph for the appropriate style in this brochure.)
b. DO NOT remove limit bolts.
c. DO NOT exceed recommended bolt torques.
d. DO NOT exceed maximum extension.
(Refer to dimensional data for the appropriate style.)
e. DO NOT exceed maximum misalignment.
(Refer to dimensional data for the appropriate style.)
f. DO NOT remove protective end plates except for inspection or installation.
